THE PLATFORM

Bringing capital closer to infrastructure.

AGTPF describes its mandate as mobilising public and private funding for African energy and infrastructure. Its focus includes renewable generation, electricity networks and energy access, using public-private partnership structures.

The published structure is a Luxembourg SICAV-RAIF umbrella. The intended investor audience includes institutions, development finance organisations, sovereign investors and family offices.

INVESTMENT STRATEGY

From project preparation to long-term operation.

01 · YEARS 1–3

Build the platform

Early deployment into priority infrastructure, with flexibility during the initial portfolio build-up.

02 · YEARS 4–5

Create & scale value

Portfolio expansion, refinancing and operational improvements.

03 · YEARS 6–10

Operate & realise value

A planned transition towards contracted income, distributions and selected exits.

Published strategy parameters include €40m–€150m+ platform investments, 10–15 platforms, a 60% country exposure ceiling and a 40% hydropower cap. Screening considers regulation, established technology, credible offtake, sustainability and local sponsorship.

Published return targets & investment risk

The strategy states a 12–17% gross IRR target. The About page describes distributions of up to 5% annually. These are different measures, not promised investor payments. Costs, leverage, currency movements and project performance affect outcomes; capital may be lost. Obtain the current offering memorandum, net-return assumptions and applicable eligibility conditions from the fund.

ENERGY & INFRASTRUCTURE

Three connected areas of focus.

Renewable generation

Solar, wind, hydro and hybrid energy systems, including battery storage.

Networks & transmission

Grid connections, substations and regional interconnection infrastructure.

Access & productive power

Mini-grids and distributed energy serving communities and commercial or industrial demand.

The homepage describes utility-scale projects typically above 50 MW. Illustrations on this page represent energy themes; they are not photographs of a verified AGTPF asset in Zanzibar.

PROJECT PIPELINE

A regional pipeline. Each project has its own stage.

The website aggregates 29 identified projects, 8,219 MW and estimated annual output of 28,223 GWh. Although one heading says “installed capacity”, the country entries are labelled Under Review. We therefore present these as pipeline figures, not commissioned assets or confirmed investments.

Country figures sum to 8,220 MW, versus the website headline of 8,219 MW; this 1 MW difference requires reconciliation with the fund. Individual project names, readiness and investment status also require confirmation.

A ZANZIBAR PERSPECTIVE

Explore a potential route for energy partnerships.

For Zanzibar-based developers, AGTPF’s mandate suggests a potential fit for scalable solar and storage, reliable power for businesses, and enabling grid infrastructure. This is our editorial assessment of its stated focus.

The public material reviewed identifies Tanzania, but does not establish a named Zanzibar investment, committed capital for Zanzibar or a local financing approval. Discuss location, scale, permits, land rights, grid access, offtake and sponsor readiness directly with the fund.

SUSTAINABILITY

Read the commitments behind the label.

The SFDR page describes Fund I as promoting environmental and social characteristics under Article 8. It sets out 80% alignment with those characteristics and a minimum 60% sustainable-investment proportion. These are disclosed portfolio commitments, not independently verified achieved impact.

It describes IFC-based diligence, periodic monitoring and indicators covering energy, biodiversity, water, waste and local employment.

Fund I: energy transition

The dedicated Fund I page describes an intended mix of 80% greenfield and 20% brownfield infrastructure. Its themes include access to electricity, industrial growth and diesel displacement.
